For some artistes who have hit it big in the Nigerian music industry, there was a time when they never believed they would ever go far in their chosen career.
This was the exact scenario that played out when fast-rising singer, Sunkanmi Alonge, was starting out as a musician. She says despite realising that she was born to sing, she was convinced she could never win the hearts of the very critical Nigerian music lovers. “I know I have always enjoyed singing a lot, but funnily, I didn’t believe I could make a career singing. I have consistently penned down lyrics for songs as far back as when I was 18.

Pastor Arrested for Defrauding Church Member of N7m In Lagos

Money rules the world and the root of all evil as they say, the Pastor of Christ Citizen Glorious Assembly, Okota, Lagos, Pastor Ikechukwu Ezeiru, has been charged with fraud at an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court. He was arraigned on Tuesday for allegedly defrauding a church member, Ifeanyi Ohazurume, of N7m.
The police said Ezeiru collected the money to help the defendant purchase auction goods from the Nigerian Customs Service. He allegedly didn’t return the money or the goods.
It was learnt that the pastor claimed to have given the money to his wife, who equally claimed to have passed it to someone else. He was arraigned on three counts of obtaining under false pretences and stealing.

10 burn to death As Truck Catches Fire in Lagos-Ibadan expressway

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Monday confirmed that 10 persons lost their lives in a motor accident along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The Commander of Olympic Unit of the commission, Mr Tanya Adeoye, who made the confirmation, told newsmen in Ibadan that the dead were burnt beyond recognition. Adeoye said that four persons survived the crash which involved two trucks and one 18-seater Toyota Hiace commercial bus with registration number BDG 767 XB.
He said that the bus, which was travelling from Ibadan to Lagos was rammed into by a truck while it stopped to allow another truck with registration number SW 175 EPE to pull out of a quarry.

NLC Protest Death Of Immigration Job-Seeking Applicants In Kaduna (Video)

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) today (Monday)  led a peaceful protest to the Kaduna State command of the Nigerian Immigration Service to express their anger and demand explanation from the authorities over  last Saturday’s recruitment exercise that claimed  the lives of about 19 applicants. 
The angry workers led by the NLC Vice President, Isa Aremu, arrived the Immigration office as early as 7:30am, blocking the entrance and preventing officers of the command from gaining access to their offices.
The workers, who sang anti-government songs, also carried placards carrying various inscriptions. They demanded to see the State Comptroller of Immigration in order to drop their protest letter, but officers on duty denied the protesters access, insisting he was not on seat.

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, one Augustine Obodeke; for having carnal knowledge of his 17-year old daughter (Favour) and impregnating her three times.
The bubble finally burst for Obodeke when his daughter became pregnant the third time and was unwilling to go for abortion. According to police report, the girl had cried out to neighbours who then reported the matter to the Ugbowo Police Station in Benin City. Following the report, the police arrested Obodeke and he is currently cooling his feet in a police cell.
Narrating her ordeal to Sunday Sun, Favour said her father started having s*xual intercourse with her after the death of her mother.

Court Clears Jonathan To Contest 2015 Presidential Election

A Federal High Court in Kaduna on Monday struck out a suit seeking to restrain President Goodluck Jonathan from seeking re-election in the 2015 general elections brought before it by two leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The plaintiffs, Richard Mneaga, and Shuaibu Lill had sought for, among other prayers, an order of the court to disqualify Jonathan from presenting himself as a presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2015 election, and for the court to order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restrain the PDP from accepting nomination of Jonathan as its presidential candidate in the 2015 election. In the suit, filed on October 7, 2013, they insisted that Jonathan had completed eight years in office as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria calculated from May 29, 2007.

Families demand bodies from immigration jobs deaths

 

It was all tears yesterday at the National Hospital, Abuja where families of some of the victims of the weekend’s Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment fiasco battled to collect their remains.
Besides, many stormed the hospital in search of their missing wards. Seven people, including five women, died at the Abuja centre. In all, 19, among them three expectant women at the Benin centre, died in cities where the exercise took place. In Minna, the Niger State capital, bodies of two applicants remained unclaimed yesterday. “Nobody has come to claim them,” a hospital official said. The relations of the dead who came to the National Hospital were not given the bodies.

Officials:Gunmen kill 100 in central Nigeria

We wonder when all this killing will stop in Nigeria, Gunmen have killed atleast more than 100 people in an attack on three villages in central Nigeria, an area where longstanding disputes over land, religion and ethnicity often erupt into violence, two local government officials said on Sunday.
The police confirmed the raids by Fulani herdsman late on Friday on the villages of Ugwar Sankwai, Ungwan Gata and Chenshyi, in Kaduna state, but declined to give a death toll.
Hundreds have been killed in the past year in clashes pitting the cattle-herding and largely Muslim Fulani people against mostly Christian settled communities like the Berom in Nigeria's volatile "Middle Belt", where its mostly Christian south and Muslim north meet.

The Ogun State Police Command, yesterday, said they arrested a 38-year-old man, Adelani Ayomide, with a bag containing 18 human skulls.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, said the suspected ritualist was arrested at 6:48am, yesterday, on Ado-Odo, Owode Road by policemen attached to a division in Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state.

Adejobi said, “Policemen attached to Ado-Odo Division, while on a stop-and-search exercise along Ado-Odo Owode Road sighted a pedestrian, Adelani Ayomide, 38, of Ilaro, Ogun State with a bag containing 18 human heads.

We Warned Jonathan Over Boko Haram Befor The Current State - Northern Elders

 

The Northern Elders’ Forum has said it warned President Jonathan on how to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency before it escalated to its current state, but the president ignored its advice.
The forum also said the national conference which is expected to kick off on Monday is a waste of money and time because it will not solve Nigeria’s problem. Addressing a press conference in Abuja, elder statesman and deputy national chairman of the NEF Paul Onongo described the conference as a jamboree.
He said the current state of insecurity is an attempt to divide Nigeria, adding that it is neither a religious or ethnic crisis.

Jathan Assures Corps Members Of Safety.

 

President Goodluck Jonathan has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps of adequate security whenever they are posted for the one-year mandatory service. The President said this on Thursday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede, in his address at the swearing in of the 2014 Batch A corps members deployed in Osun State. NYSC The Osun State Government also promised to ensure safety of all corps members posted to the state, saying security measures had been put in place to ensure their safety. This was contained in the address of the NYSC Governing Board in the state, Mr. Stephen Kola-Balogun.

Military, Boko Haram fighters battle for control in Maiduguri

 The Borno State capital, (Maiduguri) showed that the town is in turmoil as heavy fighting erupted between soldiers and Boko Haram insurgents fighting  for the control of the capital city.

No fewer than 100 people have been killed in four Katsina State villages.the officials and witnesses said yesterday that the attackers on Wednesday rode motorcycles into villages in broad daylight and killed residents. President Goodluck Jonathan last night ordered the military to dislodge the terrorists whose identities remained unclear. eye witnesses said that some of the assailants were ethnic Fulani. It was unclear whether they were Boko Harm insurgents. Some people described the assailants as cattle rustlers.
