Jathan Assures Corps Members Of Safety.

 
President Goodluck Jonathan has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps of adequate security whenever they are posted for the one-year mandatory service. The President said this on Thursday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede, in his address at the swearing in of the 2014 Batch A corps members deployed in Osun State. NYSC The Osun State Government also promised to ensure safety of all corps members posted to the state, saying security measures had been put in place to ensure their safety. This was contained in the address of the NYSC Governing Board in the state, Mr. Stephen Kola-Balogun.

Jonathan said, “On our part as government, we will do everything humanly possible to ensure your safety and welfare during this period of national assignment.” While urging the corps members to be patriotic Nigerians, he advised them to seek to impact positively the lives of their host communities.
According to him, the NYSC scheme remains a unifying factor and has been effective in bringing youths from various ethnic and religious background together since its establishment in 1973.
The President urged the corps members to avail themselves of the opportunities provided by skill acquisition programmes available at various orientation camps.
He said that his administration’s goal was to give opportunities to the youths and to empower them to set up micro industries.
The NYSC governing board in Osun State also urged the corps members to contribute their own quotas to the building of a better society.
Kola-Balogun said, “On the part of the Government of Osun State, His Excellency, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has promised to continue to give priority attention to your needs. We also hope to have a stringent security arrangement to ensure the safety of corps members while in camp. You also have a role to play by being security conscious.”
The NYSC Coordinator in Osun State, Mrs. Mojibola Eboagwu, expressed gratitude to Aregbesola for the support of his administration to the scheme.
She promised that the NYSC management in the state would ensure that the scheme continue to contribute to the development of the state.
She said that the NYSC registered 1553 participants for the orientation programme, while it also registered 394 corps members sent from Lagos State.
According to her, the corps members posted to Lagos State will return to Lagos for their primary assignment.
Also, the National Youth Service Corps in Oyo State said on Thursday it would ensure a hitch-free camping for Batch A corps members posted to the state.
The Coordinator of NYSC in the state, Mr. Olanipekun Alao, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Iseyin that all necessary facilities had been put in place to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
The coordinator also allayed the fear of lack of facilities in the new camp, saying that the structures on ground were of high quality.
He said that safety of corps members would be a priority during the camping period. He urged them to observe all safety measures put in place on their behalf.
