Femi Fani Kayode responds to Bianca Ojukwu's threat to sue him

Bianca Ojukwu's lawyers have written a letter to Femi Fani Kayode asking him to apologize and also retract the statement he made a few weeks ago claiming he dated her many years back or face a lawsuit. In the letter which was published in Thisday today, Bianca said she's never met FFK before! Femi has responded to the threat. Read the letter from Bianca's lawyers below and Femi's response after the cut...

“We have been briefed and our services retained by Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain to demand from you an unreserved apology and a retraction of a false and malicious statement, which you published online and also caused to be published in the Leadership Newspaper of August 16, 2013.
"In the said article entitled, ‘Neither a Tribalist nor a Hater,’ you recklessly alleged, as follows: ‘I was not a tribalist when I had a long standing and intimate relationship with Miss Bianca Onoh…’, a statement, which you know is untrue and unfounded, but only calculated to lower our client’s esteem and damage her national and international reputation.
"Our client has never met you, does not know you in person and has never had any official or private relationship with you how much more ‘a long-standing and intimate relationship.’

“Our client is therefore, outraged by your bizarre and scandalous allegation and the numerous mails and telephone calls she has received from friends, relations and admirers who are equally embarrassed and who seek to confirm the veracity or otherwise of your false and reckless publication.

“Your apparent lame and half-hearted attempt, as published in the Leadership Newspaper of 17th August 2013, to clarify your false and malicious allegation falls far short of a retraction and does not sufficiently address the damage to our client arising from the widespread dissemination of your false publication and is therefore unacceptable to our client.

“In the circumstances, we demand, on the instruction of our client that you submit to her a clear and unqualified apology and retraction published in The Sun and Thisday newspapers in addition to having the retraction published online.

“Take note that should you fail to tender the apology and publish a retraction of your false and malicious publication, seven days next after your receipt of this demand notice, our further instructions are to seek appropriate redress in court. And that shall be without further recourse to you. Be properly guided.”

Chief Femi Fani Kayode's response via his spokesperson - Mr Bisi Lawal

This morning Cheif Femi Fani-Kayode woke up to find a letter that was published as an advertorial in Thisday Newspaper purportedly by Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu's lawyer threatening to sue him for mentioning her in his article and claiming that she has never methim before. She also said that he was being malicious. The matter has of course been reffered to Chief Fani-Kayode's lawyers who will now take it up.

Ordinarily he would have not have said a word about this matter because he sympathiseswith her for whatever she may have been going through. However now that she has put it in the public realm Cheif Fani-Kayode is compelled to formally respond. To the assertion thathe never knew her and that they were never friends he says this is false and he asks why would he lie? The public evidence is to the contrary. Chief Fani-Kayode would not want to say anything to embarrass her because that would be ungentlemanly.

He sympathises with her delicate situation and once again he expresses his regrets about the fact that his statement about her was misconstrued. We shall just leave it at that.

Signed by Mr. Bisi Lawal on behalf of Femi Fani Kayode

on Tuesday night when an SUV double-crossed his vehicle in a lonely area, and some armed men opened fire on Chief Obianodo's car. The shooting attracted the attention of some policemen on patrol in the area who rushed down to the scene and engaged the gunmen in a shoot out, killing two of them. Chief Obianodo was rushed to the hospital where he is responding to treatment. The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, who confirmed the incident said it is under investigation.

Yaba Magistrate’s Court Sends Nkese Iroakazi, Nurse Who Set Girl Ablaze To Kirikiri Prison

Yaba Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, has ordered that Mrs Nkese Iroakazi, the nurse who allegedly set an 11-year old girl ablaze last month, be remanded at Kirikiri Prison till October.

The little girl set ablaze, Ita Bassey-Eno, died at the Gbadaga General Hospital a week later as a result of the severe burns she suffered.
The nurse allegedly poured kerosene on her and lit a match stick and fire engulfed the girl.
Iroakazi was arrested and detained at the Bode Thomas Police Station after she allegedly set the little girl staying with her ablaze.
She was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID and detained until she was arraigned in court on Thursday.
The suspect was charged with the murder of Ita Bassey-Eno. She was not granted bail by the court when she was arraigned.
On 27 July, 2013, residents of Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Surulere heard a little girl screaming and to their astonishment, they saw the girl on fire rushing out of her apartment  at 7 Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Surulere, and crying for help.
The driver of a car quickly stopped and used his fire extinguisher to quench the fire buring all over the girl’s body, but by then, the damage had been done.
The girl was rushed to the Gbagada General Hospital where doctors battled unsuccessfully to save her life.
Iroakazi was alleged to have poured kerosene on Bassey-Eno before lighting a match stick to set her azlaze after the girl was said to have stolen a piece of meat from the pot.
Bassey-Eno, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, was brought from the village with another girl, Happiness Okon-Bassey, 13, to live with the woman in June 2013 on the promise that she would send them to school, but that was not to be as the two girls allegedly performed the function of domestic servants for their mistress.
The little girl was rushed to the Burns and Trauma Centre, an annex of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in the General Hospital, Gbagada for urgent attention where the doctors said she had suffered 95 percent burns and would take a miracle for her to survive.
Executive Director, Esther Child Rights Foundation, ECRF, Mrs. Esther Ogwu, who was at the hospital to see the girl wept profusely when she saw her pathetic state, saying that in all her life as human rights activist, she had never come across such a gruesome case as the girl’s own.
Ogwu said the story that the stove in the kitchen fell and set the girl ablaze was unbelievable, alleging that all facts pointed to the woman to have allegedly poured kerosene on the girl and set her ablaze.
At the Bode Thomas Police Station, police sources alleged that the little girl confessed that her mistress poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze.
On 2 August, Bassey-Eno eventually died after she went through agonizing pins. The doctors could not save her life.

Osun State Polytechnic female student bathes boyfriend with hot water

A jealous female student of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has been arrested by the police for pouring hot water on her boyfriend shortly after his birthday.
The 19-year-old Science Laboratory Technology student was said to have poured hot water on Niyi Adelana because he invited other girls and failed to give her adequate attention during the birthday party in Iree.

Niyi, a Higher National Diploma (HND) II student of Computer Science, suffered serious burns and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Osun State, DSP Folasade Odoro, confirmed the incident in a chat with NE.
She said investigation was still going on and that upon completion, the girl would be charged to court.

Bianca Ojukwu Talks About Her Alleged Intimate Relationship With Femi Fani-kayode

Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s widow and Nigeria’s ambassador to Spain, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, has described as false the claim by former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, that she was his girlfriend when she was a spinster.
Fani-Kayode had in his article, entitled: “Neither a tribalist nor a hater,” published in the social
media and some segments of the national dailies (not The Sun), claimed to have met with Bianca when she was Miss Bianca Onoh at the Cambridge College and had “intimate” relationship with her together with two other Igbo ladies.
Reacting to this, Bianca said she had never met Fani-Kayode before, either at official or private level, not to talk of having an “intimate” relationship with him.
The ambassador, who spoke through her lawyers, Wall Street Attorneys, has, therefore, threatened to drag the former aide to ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo to court if, in the next seven days, he fails to retract his libelous publication against her.
In the letter from her lawyers to Fani-Kayode, dated August 27, 2013 and signed by Mike Ugwuanyi, Esq, Mrs. Ojukwu demanded that the former minister writes an apology and retraction of the said libelous publication in The Sun and Thisday newspapers, as well as publish it in the online publication, where it emanated, in the next seven days or face litigation.
The letter written by Mrs. Ojukwu’s lawyers and obtained by The Sun read in part: “We have been briefed and our services retained by Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain to demand from you an unreserved apology and a retraction of a false and malicious statement, which you published online and also caused to be published in the Leadership Newspaper of August 16, 2013.

“Our client has never met you, does not know you in person and has never had any official or private relationship with you how much more ‘a long-standing and intimate relationship.’

I Could Have Ended Up As A Prostitute-Nollywood Actress Mercy Johnson

Beautiful Nollywood Actress Mercy Johnson Okojie turned 29 years today the 28th of August 2013 and here is a message from the mother of one to her fans...
Today, I thought of many things I would love to have as birthday gifts and the many dreams I am still pursuing. In all of this I'm not losing sight of the fact that if not for God I might have ended
up on the street like the many kids and young adults begging for food and some prostituting to make ends meet. If we know the circumstances that force some of these people on the street, we would spare a thought for them. I am where I am today purely by the grace of God and the grace of people who believed in me from the word go.
Recently, I was at the Boys Reform Home, Oregun, Lagos, the discussion I had with the principal Mr. Kotun and much later with the Special Adviser in charge of allremand homes in Lagos set me thinking about the boys and girls on the street. They have dreams too. Can they fulfill those dreams on the street? The answer will likely be no; because I won't be where I am today if I ended up on the street.
For this reason, Mercy Johnson Foundation will be doing a lot to get kids off the street. We are not asking people for money or donation, I will do all I can with the resources God has given me, and with the support of my husband to help get these kids off the street and set them on the path where they can begin to pursue their dreams. I want to plead with people, fans, friends and colleagues to spare a thought for the children on the street. We can begin by educating people around us, parents, the children and people in charge of children (Oga-house help relationship, teacher-student relationship, and others) on the need to treat every child like the future of Nigeria depends on it. And truth be told, our future will not be all that enjoyable if we let the scourge of 'street-children' fester. By then, the rich will begin to cry. I learnt Lagos State Government has 11 homes where most children picked from the streets are kept, reformed and reunited with their families after counseling.
That is an initiative Mercy Johnson Foundation will be supporting and beyond that we will be going to different states to help spread the message-Get kids off the street, save the future. From tomorrow, I will begin to replay some of the lessons I learnt at the boys' reform home and we all can contribute to getting the kids off the street.
I am grateful to everyone that has sent in a birthday message, tweet and gifts. Thank you and God bless you.

Flavour's Other Girlfriend Surfaces, Send Warning Email To Linda Ikeji

I see some people now use Linda Ikeji's Blog to seek attention to themselves, first it was one Kemi Olu..(Whatever her surname is), now it's Onyinye who's claiming to be Flavour's girlfriend but NOT Beverly Heels, who was reportedly some time ago, engaged to 'Ashawo' singer, Flavour.

Linda claims the said Onyinye send an email to her warning her to reverse a certain post about Beverly and Flavour.

Here's the email...

I understand you are a blogger and the essence of what you do is to report juicy amebor. Unfortunately the last bullshit you posted about my man was not only fictitious but slander to him and our relationship. The nonsense you posted about him being in a "relationship" with that Mbaise prostitute, Chinenye "Beverly Heels" Ukegbu nearly severed my relationship with Flav. It is evident that the fuck shit you write is not credible. Do you not check your source? I suppose not. If you did you would be fully aware that Chinedu Flavour Okoli is in a committed relationship with no one other than ME.

I most likely seen me with Flav whenever Im in Lagos. Regardless of the fact that I am based in the US (Silver Spring Maryland), I try to spend as much time with him in Festac, Nigeria or South Africa. In fact Im currently in Enugu helping him with his new music video for Ada Ada.

Flav and I have been together for over ayear now. What we have is unbreakable!!!!!!!!! I am fully aware of that prostitute who self proclaims herself as Flavour's fiancée *rolls eyes*.According to Flavour she's nothing but a hoe who is trying to get a record deal on 2nite enter-10-ment. She does all this shit for publicity. What do you expect from a hoe who lacks talent? Sheis non existent in his life. He made a mistake and I forgave him when I traveled to Nigeria in February for Valentine's Day. And the makeup was MAGICAL! Anyways sha, I am warning you to stop posting bullshit pertaining to my love Flav or our relationship.

AND CORRECT d nonsense you posted on your "blog" about my Flav last month.

ps Yes that was me in my baby's 'SHAKE' music video. If you doubt the validity of anything I said, check out thepix ya self.

"McFarland" 11years old girl saves family from house fire

MCFARLAND - An 11-year-old girl is being hailed a hero, after saving lives when her home caught fire in McFarland.

Twenty people from three families were crammed into the three-bedroom house in the 200 block of San Pedro Street

The fire started early Sunday morning, and if not for the quick actions of Maria Elias, the ending to this story could have been much worse.

"Because if something happened to my brothers." Maria Elias can hardly contain her emotions as she recalls trying to get her younger sister and brothers to safety after a fire started in her house.

"I would hold her tight, a little bit tight because I would not want to leave her down," said Elias.

Elias says she had a premonition Saturday night that something bad was about to happen.

"I couldn't go to sleep because I knew something was going to happen," she recalled.

The fire gutted the house, causing an estimated $85,000 worth of damage.

"Interviewing people on scene, they determined that they feel it was caused by electrical. And, the reason they came to that conclusion, they had one of the individuals in the house who was laying on one of the beds and looked over, noticed a popping and burning smell coming from one of the walls near the bed," said Corey Wilford, Kern County Fire Department.

No one was seriously hurt.

"Our firefighters on scene never found a working smoke detector in the structure and the residents were actually lucky enough that somebody witnessed the fire and we want to really stress to people that smoke detectors save lives," added Wilford.

Whether the landlord will face fines for faulty smoke detectors, has not been decided.

The City of McFarland is investigating whether too many people were living inside the home per state law.

The Kern Chapter of the American Red Cross has provided temporary housing and clothing to those left homeless from the fire.

Osun Gov. Aregbesola Gives Scholarship To Daniel Oikhena, Who Hid In The Wheel Well Of Arik Air

A volunteer group extolling the virtues of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Governor of Osun State,
De Raufs, has volunteered to sponsor 15-year-old stowaway teenager, Daniel Oikhena, who hid in the tyre compartment of Arik Air flight from Benin to Lagos.

In a statement signed by the Director General of the group, Comrade Amitolu Shittu, the group is ready to give scholarship to Daniel up to university level and help him realise his dream of travelling by air legitimately.
“Genius and ambitious citizen of our country must not be suffocated on the alter of political and bureaucratic enforcement. The little boy’s ambition should be nurtured through qualitative education, and the group is ready to give the boy all the necessary support to make his dream a reality.
“We sincerely willing to offer him the scholarship to encourage thousands of teenagers who are cerebral and ambitious. The leaders in Nigeria fail on their part to see the potential of the little boy. Therefore, De Raufs takes up the responsibility to safe the future of this great boy and not turning him to criminal,” Shittu said.
The boy’s mother Mrs oikhena had earlier dismissed insinuations the boy could have fled Benin because she was maltreating him.
“I did not maltreat him. I don’t joke with my children’s welfare. He does not have friends; he hardly leaves home. I don’t know why he was going to Lagos,” she said.
“When I heard the news, I did not know what to do or say. I was so weak. Many people were telling me to calm down. My only joy now is that he is alive; that is my happiness,” she said.
Mrs Oikhena would be happier now that De Raufs has decided to take full responsibility of her son’s education.

Indian child Roona Begum recovering after hydrocephalus surgery

DOCTORS carried out life-saving surgery on an Indian baby suffering from a rare disorder that caused her head to swell to nearly double its size, in a case that aroused sympathy worldwide.

AFP was given access to film the surgery on 15-month-old Roona Begum, during which doctors used a surgical drill to pierce her skull before draining fluid from her head in an operation lasting more than an hour.
The girl's parents, who have spent the last month at the hospital on the outskirts of New Delhi, spoke of their joy and relief after the operation which doctors described as exemplary.

"The surgery went perfectly, much better than expected," neurosurgeon Sandeep Vaishya said in an exclusive interview with AFP inside the theatre.
"It's definitely a success but it's too early to say what the quality of her future life will be like," Dr Vaishya added.
Roona was born with hydrocephalus, a condition that causes cerebrospinal fluid to build up on the brain.
She was found in an Indian village last month living with parents who are too poor to pay for treatment.

Roona Begum

Publication of pictures taken by an AFP photographer in the remote northeastern state of Tripura prompted a hospital, run by the private Fortis Healthcare group, to offer to treat Roona for free.
Dr Vaishya, who heads the hospital's neurosurgery unit, made a series of swift incisions along the right side of her head and stomach during Wednesday's operation.
He then used a drill to pierce her skull before inserting a shunt, catheter and valve.
Doctors were then able to drain the fluid out of her head and towards her abdomen where it could be absorbed easily into the bloodstream.
Her father, 18-year-old Abdul Rahman, who was too nervous to speak to the doctors on the morning of the operation, said he was "hugely relieved" that the surgery was successful.
"My wife and I were both so worried this morning. But now when the doctor says everything went well, I feel hugely relieved. It's been a stressful wait," said Mr Rahman.

When Roona was born, local doctors told her parents to take her to a private hospital in a big city but the costs were too high for Mr Rahman, an illiterate labourer who earns 150 rupees ($2.76) a day.
Roona's condition had caused her head to swell to a circumference of 94 centimetres, putting pressure on her brain and making it impossible for her to sit upright or crawl.
On admission, Dr Vaishya estimated her head weight amounted to half her total weight, leading him to believe that her body would struggle to absorb all the liquid if a shunt procedure were carried out immediately.
So he decided to drain the fluid from her head into an external plastic bag and continued the process until the circumference had shrunk to about 60 centimetres, allowing him to perform the surgery.

Roona Begum
Roona regained consciousness soon after the surgery. The sight of her bruised and bandaged head provoked her mother, 25-year-old Fatema Khatun, to sob inconsolably until Dr Vaishya reassured her of the operation's success.
Dr Vaishya told AFP Roona would need further surgery to reduce the size of her head.

"While the shunt will keep the head from getting bigger, the head is still too large at the moment. We will remodel her skull, move the bones and fix them with plates to reduce her head size so she can grow normally," he said.
The shunt surgery is the most common treatment for hydrocephalus, a condition that affects about one in every 500 children, according to the US government's National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
Dr Vaishya said Roona would still need "extensive physiotherapy" to allow her to lead a fully functional life.
"Her neck muscles are very underdeveloped, so she will need more nutrition and extensive physiotherapy to make her stronger. Her body will have to grow strong so she can learn to sit up and move about and live a normal life."
In an interview after his daughter was admitted to the hospital, Mr Rahman said he had prayed constantly for a "miracle" to save his little girl.
"The day she was born, then itself the doctor said there were no guarantees she would survive," he said.
"I figured we would do our best for as long as we could and Allah would help us with the rest."
The pictures of Roona prompted an outpouring of support worldwide with prospective donors contacting AFP and other news organisations, enquiring how they could contribute to a fund for her and her family's welfare.
Two Norwegian college students, Jonas Borchgrevink and Nathalie Krantz, started an online campaign that raised $52,000 to help her family and fund any future aftercare.
The students told AFP they have already established contact with a local media website in Tripura that will help send the money to the family.
The website for donations can be viewed at MyGoodAct.

Can Having a Baby Give You OCD?

The baby blues are a very, very real thing. So is postpartum depression, which is more than just a little case of new mom sadness. Postpartum depression (PPD) can lead to feelings of inadequacy, and can cause a lack of bonding between mom and baby, and even self-harm, harm to the child, or suicide. Luckily, awareness of the topic in recent years has increased, and there's even a center focused
solely on perinatal mood disorders

Related: 7 things you should NEVER say to the mom of a newborn

My biggest fear during pregnancy wasn't stretch marks, pain, or discomfort - it was PPD. I heard so much about it that I was convinced it would happen to me, and I probably asked my midwife how I could prevent it at every appointment. During all of these conversations, no one ever mentioned that depression may not be the only mood disorder that is triggered by giving birth.

A lesser-known effect of new motherhood is the onset of anxiety disorders like obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Just like the baby blues doesn't always equal full-blown PPD, a desire to be neat and tidy or upset when your house is a mess doesn't mean OCD.

Only 2 to 3 percent of people suffer from OCD, but a new study in The Journal of Reproductive Medicine has shown 11 percent of new moms experience these symptoms. Postpartum OCD tends to come on rapidly and is often centered around a new mom's obsessive thoughts about accidentally hurting her baby or undesirable thoughts of intentionally causing harm to her baby. These repetitive and intrusive thoughts can include things about worry the baby could die in her sleep or choking and not being able to save her, or they could include thoughts of dropping, shaking, yelling, or drowning the baby. Most women with postpartum OCD do not actually act on these thoughts, meaning they resist the thoughts even though they are obsessive.

That's the "obsessive" side of OCD: thoughts the postpartum mother can't get rid of or doesn't want to have. The "compulsive" side is constantly checking on the baby during the night, praying over and over, and continuously looking up "symptoms" on the internet.

If you're thinking these sound like normal new parent behaviors, you're right - they are. A main difference here is that these behaviors interfere with normal life. I likely checked my baby monitor every six seconds when my son was a newborn and sleeping in his room for the first time, but it wasn't interfering with my ability to function- it was normal new mom behavior. I still worry that he's not breathing when he's not moving in his crib. He's so active during the day that it's hard to picture him being still and OK, but again, lots of parents do that and it isn't causing bigger problems. Postpartum OCD is much more than those day-to-day worries.

The exact cause of postpartum OCD is unknown. One thought is that it's an effect of hormonal changes during pregnancy, particularly oxytocin and progesterone. Another theory is that it's normal new parent thoughts taken to a heightened level, due to the sudden onset of responsibility - meaning that negative thoughts about your baby are normal, but people who experience postpartum OCD don't accept that.

So what can new moms do if they're experiencing symptoms of postpartum OCD? Get treatment! Treatment for postpartum OCD is the same as traditional OCD: medication and talk therapy. Specifically, serotonin reuptake inhibitors (the same medication used to treat some depression) and cognitive behavioral therapy are effective in treating the disorder. It's not yet known what the effects of medications may be on a breastfeeding baby. Although it's important for mothers to get the help they need, doctors caution against using medication to unnecessarily treat normal behavior and feelings.

The previously cited study also found that half of the moms with postpartum OCD had improved by six months, although some moms were just beginning the onset at that time. Approximately 75 percent of moms with postpartum OCD also experienced depression.

the mother of the boy found under Arik plane tyre hole

According to a report by Punch, the mother of the 14-year-old boy who successfully flew in the tyre compartment a Lagos-bound Arik flight from Benin airport on Saturday morning, was yesterday Monday August 26th grilled for hours by a combined team of security operatives from the Department of State Security Service and aviation security.

The mother, Evelyn Ohikhena said:
“My son answers Daniel in school and Ricky at home. I went to my elder sister’s place who put to bed and when I got home the next morning (Saturday), I couldn’t find him. My daughter told me that they quarrelled in the night because he woke at midnight to watch movies and she told him to stop watching movie in the night and she said he eventually slept in the parlour while she said she went back to sleep in the room.
“One of his younger brothers said he saw him remove all his school books from his bag; so I asked my neighbours whether any of them saw him and they told me that at around 5 to 6 am, they heard sounds that somebody was opening the gate but never thought it was my son. He doesn’t go out. What I know is that he is always watching films in the house but he doesn’t have friends.

“I went to Oba Market police station, they referred me to Evbuotubu police station, when I got there they said they will declare him missing after 24 hours and that I should come back the next day.”
