We Are Our Own Problem In The North - Sultan of Sokoto

Respected Islamic cleric and Sultan of Sokoto Dr. Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar III has said that the present insecurity and other associated challenges tearing the northern region apart were caused by the region itself.
The traditional ruler said this while speaking in Kaduna at a meeting of the Northern Governors Peace and Reconciliation Committee. He noted that the problem of the north will remain the problem of the entire country, since the north could not be left with its problems alone.
The Sultan, who doubles as the president, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and president-general of the Jamatul Nasril Islam (JNI), disclosed that peace talk was the best way to resolve violence or conflicts.

He said that though traditional and religious leaders had played their own part, they should not relent on their effort until the challenges are brought under control.
The monarch, however, lamented it was so sad that the government was yet to address the issue of security challenges in the nation.

He said: “Let us sit and talk freely and articulate positions that will bring us out of the quagmire we put ourselves in, ” he said. “It is important that the religious and traditional rulers from our various states sit together so that each and every one of us will talk freely…”

The Sultan added that: “Whatever that is happening in the north is our own doing, because we did not do what we were supposed to do. And since we know that, we have to solve our problems ourselves. So, I think, it is not a bad idea that the committee was set up.

“We wrote a memo of about nine pages or thereabouts covering various issues affecting the country and the north in particular to the then acting president and now president Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan… it was at the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) where we suggested solutions to the problems.

“Northern Council of Traditional Rulers met and also articulated solutions to problems of the north to the northern governors, but we don’t know what happened to the recommendations at the various authorities.

“If our recommendations had been implemented, we would have been singing a different tune in handling the challenges.”

On the issue of trying to Islamize the country as insinuated in some quarters, the Sultan affirmed that it was impossible for anybody to Islamize or Christianize the country. “If anybody thinks he can Islamize or Christianize the country, he must be dreaming,” he stated, adding that politicians must have the fear of God in whatever they do: “If they want to solve the problem of this country they will, because they have the resources to do so.

“There is little religious leaders can do without the support of the constitutional right to do certain things, but we must always watch our utterances and in making comments you cannot substantiate.”

In his own remarks, John Cardinal Onaiyekan attributed the security challenges facing the north and the country in general to the high level of poverty in the country and the region in particular.

The meeting of the Northern Governors Peace and Reconciliation Committee was attended by the Sultan as well as the leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

Zainab Abba Haliru AGREES THUS:

''I hear that the Economist of London is calling our government clueless. Hehehe...in my opinion, it is the Economist that are actually clueless in their views about our government. That they have not keyed into the the chicaneries of the so called Northern leaders is shocking. That they have totally missed the fact that social conventions are responsible for the degeneration of the North is very surprising. The North did not degenerate in five years. It started from the time when our underaged sons we left as almajiris, and subjected to all sorts of abuse and dehumanisation. Abuse makes the reptilian brain over active, Hence , Shekau. When our underaged daughters were married off before they were old enough to raise kids properly. It started from the day the so called elders decided to loot us bare. The BH problem started long before Jonathan and will continue long after wards, until we in the North change adjust our structure to suit the times.
It is only a clueless person that will call our government clueless because of this BH issue.''

And she has been given support by none other person than the

1. The average weapon-wielder in Nigeria is a northerner...daggers, swords, machetes, knives etc can be found in scabbards with the average Arewan.. Check out the Suya guys or the ubiquitous mai-guards in the south for instance...

2. The average soldier (army/air force/navy) is also a northerner.

3. There are thousands of retired Generals in the north still alive with many of them stupendously rich...

How come the area is ravaged daily like hot knife through butter by the most cowardly and moronic murderers of harmless, helpless, and unarmed kids, women and worshippers at night and during the day? There are thousands of cases in the south where even women and men band themselves together to chase away night-marauders, expose kidnappers, and other antisocial elements in their neighbourhoods...

OPC, BAKASI BOYS of ABA, OMATA of Onitsha etc have succeeded in sanitizing most of their environments even without practical military or paramilitary experience compared to the north. Go to most streets in Lagos and you will likely find gated entries and egresses in most neighbourhoods for security purposes. All are communal efforts. Nothing from govt... But not so in the north: Instead, serving military officers of northern stock have been caught with Boko Haram links....The Hisbahs (sharia police) can seize 200,000 cartons of beer from hundreds of dealers and destroy them but can't catch a single BH idiot... HERE IS WHY: ‘Northerners Are Willing Agents of Destruction’ – Senator Turaki

Senator Ibrahim Saminu Turaki, former governor of Jigawa state has said that Northerners are their own greatest enemies.

Speaking during the launch of his political movement, ‘Saminuya’, at his Bandawa farm in Kazaure local government area of Jigawa, Senator Saminu Ibrahim Turaki said, “The people that destroyed the North are northerners”.

He stated that “We have a crab culture in the North. You know, when the crab wants to climb it brings others down”.

“In the North, we don’t like ourselves. Anybody that is in power wants to destroy his predecessor. The northerners are willing tools for whoever wants to destroy somebody” he added. http://247ureports.com/?p=48134PS: In the same Yobe State the last LGA elections witnessed A MASSIVE VOTER TURN OUT as APC swept the polls. No fear of Boko Haram...‪#‎oddinnit‬?

READ: A few hours before the attack on Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Yobe State, early Tuesday morning, local residents had raised the alarm that shifted the attention of officers of the Joint Task Force, JTF, to another area.

“The alarm was later discovered to be false”, a close source to the Defence Headquarters told DailyPost Thursday afternoon.

Until Fulani Emirs are toppled, Northern Nigeria will never know peace. –Aminu Kano.

That the shocking state of social order as at present existing in Northern Nigeria is due to nothing but the Fulani's Family Compact rule of the so-called Native Administrations¬¬ in their present autocratic form. -Aminu Kano.

That owing to this unscrupulous and vicious system of Administration by the Fulani's Family Compact rulers, there is today in our Society an antagonism of interests manifesting itself as a class struggle, between the members of the vicious circle of the Native Administration on the one hand and the ordinary "talakawa" on the other. -Aminu Kano.
