Brazilian Embraer Company, the manufacturer of the plane that crashed last week Thursday, has indicated its interest to take part in investigation to unravel the cause of the accident.
The development came even as the Commissioner, Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), Captain Usman Muktar, on Sunday said the bureau had commenced investigation into the crash of the Embraer 120 ER aircraft, marked 5N-BJY, belonging to Associated Airlines Limited, which
happened at the Joint Users Hydrants installation at the Lagos airport.
Also, a team of the British insurers of the ill-fated plane, Lyods of London, will be arriving this week to also take part in the investigation.
Muktar explained that the flight recorders of the ill-fated aircraft would be downloaded at the Bureau’s newly installed flight laboratory at its Abuja headquarters, just as the readout of the recorders had commenced.
The aircraft, which went down few seconds after taking off from Runway 18L of the airport, had 20 persons on board, including seven members of the airline.
The Nigerian Tribune, however, gathered that the Brazilian plane maker had, immediately after the crash, sent a formal request to the Nigerian government to be part of the probe.
According to a source in one of the aviation agencies, investigation would commence this week, stressing that the official would first arrive in Lagos before proceeding to Abuja, where investigation is expected to start.
In most cases, whenever an accident occurs, makers of the plane often indicate interest to take part in the investigation.
