Boko Haram: America not Nigeria's friend, says Gowon

A former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon  has taken a swipe at the United States on its refusal to sell arms to Nigeria to fight the insurgency by the Islamic group, Boko Haram. Gowon, in an interview with SUNDAY PUNCH, criticised the US for not selling military hardware to Nigeria, saying if the US was truly a diplomatic friend to Nigeria, it should do everything possible to keep the corporate existence of Nigeria. This, according to him, includes assisting Nigeria to fight aggression from any quarter.

The US had on November 12, 2014, defended its refusal to sell cobra helicopters to Nigeria, saying the Federal Government was free to buy fighter jets from any other country.

The State Department's spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, said, 'Nigeria has purchased helicopters that originated in countries other than the US and nothing in our decision prevents Nigeria from obtaining weapons and equipment from other sources,'

Psaki had reacted to the allegation by the Nigerian Ambassador to the US, Prof. Adebowale Adefuye, that Washington declined to sell arms to Nigeria.

Despite the market’s name, it is open all days of the week.

The first blast came from a woman, said Mr. Musa and other witnesses. Her body lay on the ground, most of it burned except her wig. The second—a far larger blast—came shortly after from another militant standing nearby, said Mr. Musa and others in the crowd.

Mr. Musa identified the second bomber as a man and estimated as many as 50 people died in the twin blasts. A crowd pointed to what they said was his body, which was badly burned and headless.

Meanwhile, a police spokesman said the second blast came from a woman, not a man, and gave a lower death toll of at least 20.

Sacking Me Won’t Solve The Problem - Stephen Keshi

After missing out on qualification for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Stephen Keshi said sacking him will do nothing to reverse the downward trend the Eagles are currently experiencing, insisting the problems goes beyond him.
“If a team fails, sacking the coach won’t solve the problem. The authority should look beyond the coach to find solutions to the problem,” Keshi said.

Keshi, who has been working without a contract since the expiration of his last deal after the World Cup, admitted that failure to qualify for next year’s AFCON is failure on his part.

“I can’t deny it is a shame that we failed to qualify,on my part I failed the nation but my players took South Africa for granted,a match they had to win.”

Nigeria Is Cursed And In Dire Need Of Deliverance - Femi Fani Kayode

Former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode in his thought released a stetment provoking him, describing Nigeria as a cursed Country. Read below:

"Nigeria is not blessed, she is cursed and she is in dire need of deliverance. If we were not cursed how can we act as if all is well and how can we be normal after 49 of our school children were bombed to death in one fell swoop.
This single outrageous and horrendous act is enough to traumatise most nations and most people for the next ten years, but not us. Most of us are indifferent: we shut it out and act as if it never happened.
We are a land that continues to dance, to make merry and to rejoice even as it's weakest and most vulnerable citizens are butchered and even when it's very own children are slaughtered like christmas turkeys and sallah rams. I see all this and I say shame on us all: from the highest to the lowest we have all failed. From the pauper to the prince and from the servant to the king we are all guilty.
We are a strange land of strange men and women. We are a land where the nepthalim hold sway. We are a land that enjoy to watch others suffer injustice, persecution and wickedness and where the youth would

President Obama Offers Legal Status to Millions of Undocumented Immigrants

PHOTO: President Barack Obama speaks during a nationally televised address from the White House in Washington, Nov. 20, 2014.
President Obama on Thursday defended the actions he's taking to shield about 5 million immigrants in the U.S. illegally from deportation as "lawful" and consistent with what his predecessors have done.

"I continue to believe that the best way to solve this problem is by working together to pass that kind of common sense law," the president said. "But until that happens, there are actions I have the legal authority to take as President - the same kinds of actions taken by Democratic and Republican presidents before me - that will help make our immigration system more fair and more just."

"The actions I'm taking are not only lawful, they're the kinds of actions taken by every single Republican president and every single Democratic president for the past half century," Mr. Obama added.

The actions he outlined will grant a reprieve from deportation to about 5 million immigrants in the U.S. illegally and allow them to apply for a three-year work permit if they can pass a background check, register with the government, submit biometric data, and establish they are eligible for relief.
